Wilbur Joseph Cash

Wilbur Joseph (W. J.) Cash (1900-1941) grew up in Boiling Springs before becoming a journalist for the Charlotte News. In 1941, he published the landmark The Mind of the South, "the single most compelling analysis of southern consciousness and culture" (Encyclopedia of Southern History). More than fifty years after publication, scholars still debate its points and students of southern history find it essential reading.
