Elliott Crayton McCants
McCants (1865-1953) set many of his short stories and novels in the Carolina Upcountry. His titles include One of the Grayjackets (1908), short stories; In the Red Hills (1904), a novel set at the end of the Civil War; White Oak Farm (1928), a novel about the organization of the Redshirts; Ninety Six (1930), a novel set during the Revolution; and History, Stories and Legends of South Carolina (1927), a textbook. He was a popular and influential teacher and school administrator in Anderson County.
