Samuel Gaillard Stoney
Born in Charleston on August 29, 1891, Samuel Gaillard Stoney wrote several books focused on the architecture of the region including: Plantations of the South Carolina Lowcountry, Charleston: Azaleas and Old Bricks, and the classic This is Charleston, an architectural survey. He also wrote about institutional and family history, as well as the impact of food in The Carolina Rice Kitchen: The African Connection. Stoney passed away in 1968.
