Dr. Tom Mack holds the rank of USC Distinguished Professor Emeritus. During his 39 years on the faculty of the University of South Carolina Aiken, 25 of those years as chair of the English Department, he was frequently recognized for his teaching, scholarship, and public service. In 2008, the USC Board of Trustees awarded him the prestigious Carolina Trustee Professorship; and in 2014, he received the Governor’s Award in the Humanities. Mack is the author/editor of nine books. He continues to write his “Arts and Humanities” column, appearing each weekend since 1990 in TheAiken Standard. For his museum and gallery reviews in the weekly Post and Courier/Free-Times (Columbia, SC), he was honored by the South Carolina Press Association. In addition to his long service on the board of the SC Academy of Authors, Mack is also Chair Emeritus of the board of SC Humanities, the state's affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. He is also currently serving on the Executive Board of the Authors Club of Augusta. Founded in 1929, the ACA is the oldest literary arts organization in the Central Savannah River Area.
